Seven Valleys Health Coalition sponsors three healthy challenges from May until September. These events have been branded the “Triple Crown” for a number of reasons: there are three of them, the City of Cortland is the Crown City, and horse racing’s Triple Crown begins in May at just about the same time as the first Triple Crown challenge, Bike Walk Week.

Our goal is to encourage exercising, getting out to meet your neighbor, eating healthy, and engaging in recreational pursuits, which are all quality of life issues.  For those who need a little extra incentive, we created these challenges and include some prize incentives along the way.

Bike Walk Week starts on May 14 and continues through May 20.  Replace a trip that you would have taken by car, and bike or walk instead.  If your bike needs some attention, or you need some help with the rules of the road, you can attend a Bikeology sponsored by the Cortland County Health Department on May 9 at the Cortland Community Center on Central Avenue starting at 6PM.  The Health Department will have bicycle helmets available too at a very low price.  The more times you walk or bike, the more entries you receive for the grand prize drawing which is $100 towards a healthy choice such as a gym membership, bike repair, sneaker purchase, FitBit, or similar purchases. Incentive prizes will be awarded daily to randomly selected participants who have logged at least one trip. It’s free to join.
