Move for a cause

Did you know that all this week until May 2, any type of physical activity you participate in can count as part of a movement to bring awareness to domestic violence?

That's right, Yards for Yeardley is an awareness and activation event supported by the national foundation, One Love. One Love was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a young woman who died on May 3, 2010, at the age of 22, when she was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend. The foundation's mission is to raise awareness of dating violence and try to prevent other deaths like hers.

Locally, SUNY Cortland's Title IX office promotes the challenge and has a dedicated page for information about the event. If you want to log your activity, click here for the form.

Whatever activity you enjoy, you can log it and dedicate it to the cause. It can be biking, walking, running, swimming, hiking etc., it doesn't matter. Here are the steps to take part and you can share a hashtag and your reason for participating-whether it's to celebrate healthy love or honor someone in particular.

Share your why on social media with #YardsForYeardley #MoveForLove & tag @Join1Love
